About Dr. Dalbert Fear
Dr. Fear comes from a family with deep roots in dentistry and oral and maxillofacial surgery: his wife practiced as a general dentist, his brother is a retired orthodontist, and his daughter has completed advanced training in oral and maxillofacial surgery—now joining him as a partner in their father–daughter practice. He believes exceptional surgical outcomes depend on collaboration and prioritizes close communication with referring dentists and other medical professionals. Dr. Fear is also committed to mentorship and education, supporting the training of future dentists and oral surgeons to help advance the quality of care across the profession.
Outside the Office
Beyond the practice, Dr. Fear remains closely involved in the Michigan surgical and dental community. He is an active member of the Department of Surgery at Chelsea Hospital in Chelsea, MI, and previously served as Section Head of Dentistry and Oral Surgery at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Ann Arbor for 20 years. Dr. Fear also serves as a clinical instructor in oral and maxillofacial surgery at the University of Michigan School of Dentistry and has held leadership roles as president of the Michigan Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, Michigan Council of Dental Specialists, Washtenaw District Dental Society, and the Chalmers J. Lyons Academy
Education & Residency
Dr. Fear earned his Bachelor of General Studies from the University of Michigan, followed by his Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree from the University of Michigan School of Dentistry. He continued his advanced training at the University of Michigan, completing a Master of Science (MS) in dentistry and an oral and maxillofacial surgery residency at the University of Michigan Hospital. To further refine his surgical expertise, Dr. Fear completed advanced training in plastic and maxillofacial surgery and facial trauma care at Canniesburn Hospital in Glasgow, Scotland, an internationally recognized center for complex reconstructive surgery.
